Addicts are addicted by choice

  • Nothing could be further from the truth. While taking that first drink, or smoking that first crack pipe is the choice of the individual the drugs can alter peoples mind set. It can only take one to become addicted.

Rehab doesn’t work

  • While there are some individuals who don’t find rehabs approach to recovery beneficial, there are many who do. Rehab is specially tailored to helping those with addictions.

All rehabs are the same

  • Each rehab center has a different approach and different facilities to offer the patient. For a rehab center to be effective the patient has to look for one that they feel will help them.

Addicts are weak willed

  • While there are people who are more susceptible to addiction, this doesn’t mean they will always become addicts. It also doesn’t mean they are weak.

Addicts could stop if they wanted too

  • Quitting drugs is incredibly hard, the addicts are dependent on the drugs. They can’t always do it on their own.

You have to hit rock bottom before you can quit

  • There isn’t always a rock bottom for addicts. Sometimes instead of rock bottom there is death. Making that effort to quit, or go to rehab is vitally important.

You can’t force someone to quit

  • Nothing could be further from the truth. A lot of criminals are forced into rehabilitation programs, and they often benefit from it.

There is no going back after a relapse

  • An addicts first time treatment, or second, or even third won’t always be effective. Sometimes it takes several attempts at quitting to kick the habit.
